Our Student Services team consists of dedicated professionals who work collaboratively to support your child. Below, we've outlined the key roles within this department:
School Counselor
Our School Counselors are integral members of our educational team, focusing on the academic, career, and social-emotional development of all students. Their role encompasses a wide variety of responsibilities, including:
- Academic Guidance: Assisting students with course selection, academic planning, and developing effective study habits to achieve their full potential.
- Career Exploration: Introducing students to various career pathways and helping them understand the connection between their current studies and future opportunities.
- Referrals: Connecting students and families with appropriate school or community resources for specialized support when needed.
SAFE Coordinator (Safety, Awareness, and Family Engagement Coordinator)
The SAFE Coordinator is dedicated to fostering a safe and supportive school environment while promoting strong connections between the school, students, and families. Their key roles include:
- Promoting Safety Initiatives: Working to implement and oversee school safety protocols, including bullying prevention programs and restorative justice practices, to ensure a secure and respectful atmosphere for all students.
- Student Support and Intervention: Identifying students who may be at risk or experiencing challenges (e.g., attendance issues, behavioral concerns) and coordinating interventions and support services to help them succeed.
- Family Engagement: Serving as a crucial link between families and the school, facilitating communication, providing resources, and organizing workshops or events that encourage parental involvement in their child's education and well-being.
- Community Partnerships: Collaborating with community organizations and resources to provide additional support for students and families, such as mental health services, mentorship programs, or after-school opportunities.
- Attendance Initiatives: Playing a key role in monitoring student attendance, reaching out to families regarding absences, and working to reduce chronic absenteeism, recognizing its impact on academic achievement.

Our School Psychologists are highly trained professionals who apply expertise in mental health, learning, and behavior to help students succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally. Their responsibilities include:
- Assessment and Evaluation: Conducting comprehensive assessments to identify students' learning and behavioral needs, including those for special education eligibility. This involves evaluating cognitive abilities, academic skills, social-emotional functioning, and adaptive behaviors.
- Intervention Planning: Developing and implementing evidence-based interventions to address a wide range of academic and behavioral challenges. They work with teachers, parents, and students to create individualized plans that promote positive growth.
- Consultation: Collaborating with teachers, administrators, and parents to develop strategies for managing classroom behavior, improving learning environments, and supporting students with diverse needs.
- Crisis Response: Providing critical support during school crises, offering psychological first aid, and helping to re-establish a sense of safety and normalcy.
- Program Development: Contributing to the development and evaluation of school-wide programs that promote mental health, positive behavior, and academic success for all students.
These dedicated professionals work in conjunction with our teachers and administration to ensure that every Memorial Middle School Soldier has the resources and support necessary to thrive.
